Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question ZIP instead of floppy

It just annoys me that you kind of have to have a floppy as a fall-back; has anyone successfully lived with a ZIP drive instead?

I'm not at all sure if you'd be able to boot from a ZIP drive in an emergency since making a boot image for a floppy is presumably not going to work if you copy that image to something other than a floppy (even assuming you put one in so you could make the boot image).

However, I'm thinking that if you have a 250MB ZIP (let alone a 750MB) you should be able to just put the whole boot volume on it....

So, anybody have an experience to offer?

Thanks folks,

John

I do. I use my rom's. I use knoppix as my rescue CD, and boot from my DVD drive in an emergency/backup situation. I don't even have a working floppy in my house right now. Works great, as long as your bios will boot from that device, give it a whirl.

Bye bye floppy (say that when you don't use it anymore, it feels nice )

Cool
