Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

thanks for continued comments

Hi again, I'm still going either way on whether I be doing ssd for os drive.

Need to get processor and case first, then I check what ssd are available.

Seems that I can't be that stupid if I use partition alignment, ext4, trim, "echo deadline > /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler" and have swap/tmp /home stuff go to disk hd or memory(8G) and should get reasonable performance from an ssd 2-4 years.

I've seen some technical considerations from serious hardware tweakers regarding ssd, I don't care, I'd just like to get a new toy to get acquainted with the technology but also get something out of it without worrying too much about specifics.

Well, first you are choosing the wrong scheduler. What makes you think 'deadline' would be the best for a 'SSD'?
As to your reasonable performance, not really. If you use a properly setup configuration along with a 'noop' (FIFO) scheduler then things will be better.

You had better learn to configure the system properly for 'SSD' inclusion or just stay with spinning disk.

Thanks for additional tips.

Found this and this that mention deadline.

I'll reread your post #26 and I see here why about noop.
