Yet another USB Key Drive Problem :(

Hi all,
So here's my dilema. I picked up a Lexar JumpDrive Sport...USB 2.0, 128Meg drive.

I've gone through quite a few tutorials to get it mounted and working but can't seem to do it. I have Fedora Core 1 installed on 3 PCs. One with USB 2.0, the other 2 with 1.1. The PC with USB2.0 is running kernel 2.6.4 (compiling it again as I type). The other two are running 2.4.22 (that sounds right).

I would just like this to work with ONE of them at first...I'll take small steps

Here are the steps I go to get it to work.
In a console:
modprobe usb-storage
dmesg

<plug in the device>

dmesg

it outputs a lot of stuff then at the bottom:

sda: Write protect off
sda: sda1
WARNING: USB Mass Storage data integrity not assured
USB Mass Storage device found at 2

All this seems like it's going o.k.! Then...about 30 seconds later the computer freezes and goes into a lockup and die loop...

This is on one of the laptops with the stock Fedora Core 1 kernel with usb 1.1

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated...I've been fighting with this for 4 days now and haven't gotten anywhere...

Thanx,
Averen

Not sure this has anything to do, but try stopping fam (file alteration monitor) before plugging in, it often rises conflicts:
killall famd

Thanks for the info. I killed famd, but I'm still getting the same errors.

It looks like it REALLY wants to work...the drive is recognized as a 131Meg drive at first...then it seems like it reprobes it and comes up with a 1Gig drive size (I wish!)

I think I'm just going to take it back and get a different one...4 days of headache just isn't worth it...floppies or CDs are easier...and faster...and work
