Angry yenta pcmcia issues.. i think.

I have a compaq armada 7800, and for the last several days, i have been trying to get slackware/debian/just about anything to install and not freeze up when accessing my pcmcia slots.

So far, debian and slack both lock-up hard when trying to use it, i have to pull out the battery and power cord to get it off.

Slackware:
someone said i needed to boot the install with 'pcmcia' specified from prompt before typing setup. that didn't help. also, someone said to edit /etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia and change pcic to equal 'pcic=yenta_socket', now, that didn't lock up my pc, but after restarting pcmcia and trying to use it, it errored with no drivers or something like that.

Debian:
a chat room somewhere said i would be able to specify yenta_socket during install if i used the bf24 kernel, i looked through the kernel_mod list for awhile, and never found it.

Just a few minutes ago, i got a copy of suse8 installed, and it worked, but would honestly prefer slackware (or debian).

Can anyone please tell me what I am missing ? i understand that default installs of deb/slack don't use yenta, can someone tell me what needs to be changed ? please ?

thankyou for your time,
-mike
