ya ati problem post
I'm installing (or trying to) the ATI 8.28.8 driver, using their ati-driver-installer*.run script, on slackware v. 11.0, with a 2.6 kernel that I built. This is for a radeon 9000 board that I once had working with a previous slackware incarnation (after many hours of frustration, just like now). Anyway, get no errors running the script, but on reboot X just comes up blank (actually worse than blank, the monitor shows the "no input" message). In /usr/share/fglrx/fglrx-install.log there's the following:
[Message] Kernel Module : Trying to install a precompiled kernel module.
[Message] Kernel Module : Precompiled kernel module version mismatched.
[Error] Kernel Module : No kernel module build environment - please consult readme.
So presumably the actual driver module didn't get installed? (Where would it be?) Is there some alternative to using the *.run script from ATI?
I've looked through many threads here on ATI install problems, but haven't found enlightenment so far.
