I have installed Redhat Linux 9.0 on my Pc
The configuration is 2 Hdd 1) 8Gb 2) 40 GB
SiS 6326 AGP Display Adapter
128 Mb Ram
ViewSonic E40 14'" Display
The Linux is installed as Dual Boot on the 8Gb Hdd
During the installation the SiS 6326 Agp was detected and GUI Installation was performed. Now on issuing the command startx the display remains blank and then forcing the pc to be rebooted.
well "forcing pc to reboot" by u or automatically??
If u r saying that u have no other option .. apart of rebooting then the problem may be due to incorrect monitor syn frequencies.. .
Distribution: Red Hat 7.2/8/9, Fedora Core 1/2/3, Smoothwall, Mandrake 7.0/10, Vecter 4, Arch 0.6, EnGuarde

Try install Linux using VESA Drivers. See if you continue to have the problem. If you do, is your computer running on a AMD CPU? If so, which motherboard and CPU are in use?
Also, you said you are using a dual boot. I'm asuming the other boot is Windows XP? Is Linux installed on 1 harddrive, and Windows on the other, or are they seperated in 2 partitions on the same harddrive, and you are using the 2nd harddrive as storage?

if it is so.. then tell us..
That's a good call. I was asuming the PC was starting automatically...
I had the same problem mate the screen just goes blank, so to fix it i got a copy of Mandrake 9.2(people say redhat is better but at least mandrake works)

Try using Mandrake on a AMD chip. When you don't get the Vector 002x error, tell me what motherboard you are using.
The problem is that when i issue the command startx, the Monitor is blank and on checking the keyboard by pressing the Caps Lock key, there is no response which indicates that the pc has hanged and i have to reboot.
I am using Intel PIII 450 Mhz processor and my motherboard is i guess VIA board
I have installed Redhat Linux 9.0 on my 1st Harddrive and other OS is WIndows 2000 professional. The second HardDrive used by me is for Data Storage.
I checked on the http://www.Xfree86.org website and found that my AGP card SiS6326 is been supported in the latest 4.3.0

I have a chipset from SiS that was very unfriendly with Linux as well. Do not know if it was the 6326, but I'll go back and look for the card, then check it out.
VIA chipsets are used on most motherboards, and Linux works with them. However, I do not have experience how Linux works with motherboards made from VIA. I do know that some Biotech motherboards do not work with all Linux Distro's and the motherboard could be playing a role in this problem. Verify your motherboard model and do a search in Google with Linux to see if there are cronic problems. Check to see if any of them, if there is some, are related to your problem in any way.
