Xserver will not start

I have an ati 9800pro and can't get Xserver to load on a new installation of Red Hat. The log says it doesn't detect the ati card. I am pretty new to linux. During the installation it default selects 9800 and there is no option for a 9800pro. So that one has failed, I tried the generic ati selection and that failed. After browsing some forums I saw someone say they used the latest FireGL selection and it worked. I tried that as well and it failed. Lastly I used wget to get the files from ati's website and tried to install them. I get errors when trying to install the driver or the installer. XFree86 4.3. Any suggestions?

I need to install for a school project and have a copy of Fedora as well, but I'm afraid I'll get the same problems. Another weird thing is I tried to install Red Hat using VM workstation and when I boot into Red Hat (Xserver starts) the VM process takes 99% cpu processing and as you can imagine I can't do a thing in or outside of the VM machine.

What are the errors you get installing the driver from ATI's site?

I did a reinstall of Red Hat and man that URL was way too long to retype with gedit so I gave up for now being I needed a working linux installation for an Appache/SQL project for school. I just installed the Fedora Core 2 installation that came with my book. It started right up detecting the same monitor and videocard settings Red Hat did. Sort of interests me being Red Hat makes Fedora, but I'll take it.
