Xsane Wont see my Canon Printer

I previously had a Canon MP470, worked fine with Xsane. The printer took a dump.

I purchased a cheap Canon from walmart, Fedora wouldn't recognize it. So today, I bought another Canon Printer PIXMA MG3222. Fedora finds it. But Xsane will not see it.

Funny thing, I have a wireless HP Printer and Xsane works fine with it as well as the previous MP470.

Any ideas why Xsane is not even recognizing the existence of the new printer?

Cannon dose NOT support Linux or Apple
so any support there is is community done only .

Hewlett Packard actively supports S.A.N.E.

John

Thank you for your response, but i had no problems with my previous Canon, i thought it wouldnt have been a problem.

So basically you are recommending I get an HP printer, and things should go smoothly?

some have sane drivers that were made by the community
and not by cannon

Most cannon scanners have NO apple nor Linux drivers ( only ones made by users and not cannon)

most NEW cannon scanners have windows 7 only drivers
some older ones only have windows vista ONLY drivers

and some very nice and still working but just a bit old have Windows XP ONLY drivers

have a look at the supported devices list

Canon's web site actually lists this as not supported for Linux. The site John linked to offers an MG3200 Series diver that's described as "untested", but it might be worth trying. If you get it to work they'll be glad to hear about it!

The moral of this is "never buy a printer or scanner without first checking for a driver"; sad but true.
