Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

xorg.conf and Kensington Slimblade Trackball K72327

does anybody have a clue how to get the upper two buttons runnning on this wonderfull Kensington Slimblade trackball K72327, the one with the big red ball? the upper buttons remain silent whatever i do in xorg.conf, that also means i have no middle button function. parameters i played with were Buttons, ButtonMapping, ZAxisMapping, Protocol, Emulate3Buttons and so on. no prevail.

interestingly also on the virtual console level only the lower two buttons seem to work. i am not sure if that has any meaning here.

any help much appreceiated, thanks, bye, pisti

Try switching to the evdev driver. It's able to handle the extra buttons on most multimedia mice and keyboards. Evdev uses different options from the standard mouse driver, which you can find here, but most of the time you shouldn't need any.

The xev application will show you what buttons are detected and how.
