xmms won't play mp3 tracks

Hai
I recently installed Redhat 8.0 in a mercury 810e motherboard with integrated ac97 audio. The processor is Intel celeron 800. The problem is that i am able to listen to audio cd's thru kscd player ..Wav files are also playing. But when i add mp3 files to playlist in xmms player, it won't add. Is there any setting i need to change or can u suggest any working player software that i can use
