Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Xircom USB to serial DB9, what driver?

I'm trying to use a Xircom PGSDB9 USB to serial converter on my lap top with minicom. I was using minicom to connect with a device from a desktop, now I want to connect with a laptop, which is running FC4, that does not have a DB9 serial port.

I searched the net and found source code that might be right, keyspan_pda.c and related files but as I looked into it is seems that this driver should already be part of the distribution.

In minicom I tried configuring for /dev/tty/USB0, /dev/usbdev1.1, /dev/usb2.1, /dev/usb3.1 and /dev/usb3.3 but none of these seemed to work. I have 2 USB ports on the Compaq laptop which is another question, which am I talking too?

So the question is this: is the correct driver on the machine or do I need to download it from somewhere?

Thanks for any comments!

Well, since no one responded, I'll report what I did to get it to work.

First problem, loose cable.

Next, it seemed to see /dev/ttyUSB0 better when logged in as root, and minicom needed to be configured then restarted, then it worked fine.
