xfree86 and via km400 video problems

tried to install mandrake 9.0, redhat 9 and it didn't work out. slackware 9.0, and vector4.0rc2 linux seemed to work. i am assuming that the version of xfree86 at 4.3.1 (or is it 4.3.0) is the determining factor. would this be the case, or are there other factors involved as well?

What was the problem with mandrake and redhat??if XFree version was the problem, you could have downloaded and installed the newer one.(it is possible that your problem was only due to the XFree version)
