Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

xf86config flickering issue

I started out trying to get my Trekker scrolling mouse to scroll by using xf86config. After running the configuration tool I got a broken pipe error and the X-server stopped working. I could only use terminal. I ran the xf86config again only to get extreme flickering at the terminal. I tried using ctrl-alt +/- to change the resulution, no avail. If fact, the flickering was so bad it did not even look like the keyboard letters were going to the screen. I had to ctrl-alt-backsp to quit the system.

I set up the horizontal and vertical frequencies to spec. The memory video I set a conservative 1024 because I could not find this data in the specs. Unfortunately, I cannot post the config file, I cannot access my sytem.

ATI Mach64 video card
XF86_Mach64 server
h-freq 30-54 kHz
v-freq 50-120 Hz

Any suggestions?

-Keith
