X670e networking

I just built a system around a ASRock X670e pro RS with 7700x cpu. Got Ubuntu 22.04 up and running but there's no network or wifi adapter visible. I don't mean no drives, I mean not there at all. They don't show up in lspci or lshw. lshw -C network is blank. Nothing relevant in dmesg either. Anyone else had this issue? Any thoughts on what to try? It's a Dragon RTL8125BG, so should be well supported. (I’ve been using an external USB nic while I try to diagnose, in case you’re wondering)

Will try to update this with output of lspci later if deemed of interest; I'm not at the machine right now.

I have tried:
Update bios to 1.11 (latest stable)
clear cmos
Disable and reenable onboard LAN in bios, diff’d output of lshw and lspci -v with it on and off (no difference)
Using a fedora live stick (not visible in fedora either)
Fwupdmgr (no updates available)

Dimbit,

Welcome to LQ forums.

That is very strange. You could try the following.

If you don’t already have it, install build-essential:

Code:
sudo apt install build-essential
A Linux driver for the RTL-8125BG is available at:

https://www.realtek.com/en/component...press-software

Download the 2.5G Ethernet LINUX driver r8125 for kernel up to 5.19.

Extract the tarball using Archive Manager or:

Code:
 tar -xvjf r8125-9.010.01.tar.bz2
Open the resulting folder r8125-9.010.01 and follow the README instructions to compile the driver.

Why would you expect hardware as much as 5 months newer than your choice of OS to work without problems? The usual rule is hardware should be 6-12 months older than the distro release, unless you're an expert willing to work with the developers preparing support for the new hardware and don't expect full functionality OOTB. Is the Dragon the only thing not working?

Thanks for the responses.
Dragon RTL8125BG isn't that new.

I have build-essential and the drivers. Literally not appearing on the PCI bus.
But.... More testing today shows a lot more stuff not working and cross checking with the mobo manual it looks like everything served by PROM21 #2 is dead, so looks like an RMA unless anyone else has any other ideas.

Dimbit,

I would definitely RMA it.

I would also consider another make as a replacement, in the light of the faults you have discovered.
