X-Window problems ---- Newbie

When I startx, it gives me an error that says "screen found, but none have usable configuration."

When I "lsmod", i can see that the "NVdriver" is loaded (but nothing is "using" it)...so i'm assuming that its not a kernel source problem.....or is it?

I've made all the necessary changes to X86Config and I've added the "alias" line to "modules.conf".

Any suggestions?

Try setting your monitor setting to higher numbers.

I've already tried different settings, along with the exacpt specs of my monitor.

In my XFree86 log, it gives this error:

WW System lacks support for changing MTRRs

I don't know if thats related to my problems.

Anyone have a clue?

I found this at another site. But it still doesn't help you enable your hardware. It just gets you running in X.

"when I replace driver = "nvidia" to driver = "nv" and comment out "load glx" (effectively disabling the nvidia driver) the X server loads normally. "

Post your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file since that is the config file you are using.

Did the driver you downloaded match the kernel you are using? I think you are running the 2.4.17 kernel from your posts.

# Find running kernel version
uname -r

Perhaps you could:
Give the distribution you are using
Give your video card modle number
the driver packages you downloaded

It can always help to go through some

Google search hits using error messages.

Using Debian 3.0, kernel 2.4.20 Don't know why it says 2.4.17 in the log file; Could I be loading the driver in the wrong kernel? I did compile a new one a few days ago, but that was from 2.2.16 (I think).

Using the nForce mother board which has the vidcard intergrated.

Using this driver: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=li..._ia32_1.0-4363

I already tried that google search and tried many of the solutions, nothing worked for me.

I can't spot anything obvious from the files you have posted. Have you posted on the nVidia forum?

ok, now I'm getting somwhere....

When I insmod or modprobe, it says this: nvidia.o:init_modulesevice or resource busy. Incorrect module paramters, irq or i/o

I tried inserting the irq of my vid card when i insmod, but it says "invalid parameters".

Does anyone know how I can fix this?
