(X)Ubuntu 6.06 doesn't like my LUMIX cam much
Hello,
Is there any way to get my Lumix camera working with Xubuntu?
I tried the obvious, plugging it with the supplied USB cable, it was auto-mounted and shown as "252 mass-storage device" (Or something like that) but kindly refused to open it.
Looking through the manual, it seems I could just use a card reader (The manual's in French, and mentions to use a "port de carte" for non-supported OSs by the ArcSoft software, and I know they're not talking floppies) but is there a way to do it with software? Like DigiKam or something?
If not, will all SD to USB card reader devices work under Linux? I'm thinking of just picking up a 7$ one from like Giant Tiger or something.
Can Linux handle SD cards well? I know it works perfectly with CompactFlash, but SD and MS/MSPro seem to be in the murky area.
I'm thinking the photos on the cam need to be pulled from the card to the PC, and not from the Pc to camera directly. Do SD cards have DRM on them? Would that stop me from using it with Linux?
It's a DMC-LS2, rather good quality when I bought it, but the things just too darn fragile... First one was unusable in like two weeks because it was bumped around, but I guess the same goes for all cameras.
Cheers,
Joro.
