X trouble after Ati drivers install

It is all about MDK 10.1 and ATI 3D 9600 PRO.

I have the following symptoms: Everything is working just fine but if I am working in X (non 3D accelerated) after a while my monitor is going into suspend mode - standby mode even if I don't stop moving my mouse or pressing keys on my kb. Anyone know why this is happening?
Power management is disabled.

And another question: gmplayer (mplayer GUI) refuses to work. It says that it cannot work with that video device. It reccomends me to use -vo help and believe me I tried everyone of them but it refuses to play movies.
Somebody has any ideeas?

Thanks for the time!

did yo install new drivers from ATI?

has long as I know MDK 10.1 comes with Radeon 9600 drivers.
I've a Radeon Mobility 9700, MDK detects a 9600 card and uses the generic driver compatible with 9600.
It works fine without hardware accel...I mean... it only works without hardware accel 'coz if I want it I have to install the drivers from ATI website.

I never had that issue but try to install he drivers from ATI and run the provided configuration tool.

yes I know that MDk 10.1 comes with generic ATI RADEON 9600 drivers, but those drivers are of no use to me because i want to make use of my cards graphic power under Linux (games) and I installed the latest drivers from ATI homepage. I have accelerated graphics but I have this problem now.
Thanks for your time anyway and if you find anything that might get me a little closer (at least) to the answer of this problem please let me know.

Thanks again

In this situation I would either update or reinstall X (sounds like an X-problem) or upgrade Mandrake and kernel.

There are also some commerical driver sets called something like Snap and Gamon I think.

I think I had that problem all along until I used Mepis. It come in free flavors.
