x server architecture


is there any site to get info on xserver architecture.nt the client server stuff of xwindow system.i want info on x server architecture.how it is implemented.all tht ddx,dix stuff.how it interacts with graphics hardware.etc.
where can i get information.kindly anybdy reply

I think the best place is your X server's web site. Yet I think you may find interesting documentation at ltsp.org.

tnx checked out x.org.pretty complicated stuff.i wanted to start frm basics.

I don't know how basic you want it but I found out some stuff about X-Windows here: http://www.cs.cf.ac.uk/Dave/X_lecture/

its about Motif programming but discusses some of the basics for the X-Windows.

no i didnt want x window system architecture.iwanted to knw x server architecture.how it is implemented.got to analyse x server source code.for which first i have to knw how its implemented

another question

i have another doubt.when i look to download x server code.there r two sites x.org and xfree86 which provides the link.
whts the difference between them.
i am soo confused .pls help

There once was only XFree86 (up to version 4.3.999...). Then with version 4.4 came a new license, that many did not like. The X organization then made a snapshot of the whole XFree86 source code just before the license change, and reworked it a little, for its name to be "X.Org". But it basically was the same, license apart.

The situation now is not very different, because that was not very long ago. Yet, it is said that X.Org development goes faster than that of XFree86. And indeed, latest release has a few features, that are absent of XFree86 as far as I know.

Most Linux distributions now use X.Org.

does anybody know what is framebuffer driver.fbdev .and what is vesafb
