wrong sample rate for Gnome system sounds

Hello, I have a little problem with Gnome system sounds. For some reason the sample rate for my Audigy LS is not correct, but only for system sounds (I think). I can play music CDs, mp3s, etc with Totem (gstreamer) or XMMS (OSS output plugin) and all is fine. I can 'aplay' from command prompt and all is fine, but for some reason system sounds are not fine. Pretty sure it's a sampling rate problem cause that's what it sounds like, wrong sample rate. I'm using SuSE 9.2 and can't find the multimedia selector that my Debian install has where you can select what sound system to use and configure it. Anyone know how to fix this directly? Thanks.
