Question Wrong Harddisk Size

I dont get it,
i have a slackware 10.1 server at home where i store my files
but there seems to be a problem with my Maxtor 120Gb HDD

when i type "df -h"
it gives the following size:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 35G 1.5G 32G 5% /
/dev/hdb1 46G 45G 0 100% /home/leech
-------------------------------------------------------------------

hdb1 is my 120 GB HDD but it only shows 46 what is going on?

i noticed in fdisk that my /dev/hdb has cylinder size of 14946
could this be the problem?

its only one partition on the drive and i cannot add more so it has to be 120gb at least

getting very confused

i hope some1 can help me out

thanx in advance

That is strange because I never had problems partitioning and formatting 120 GB hard drives from different brands. Usually it happens with larger hard drives. As su or root, type cfdisk. If there is unused space, you will have to delete the primary partition and create a new partition with the correct size. Before you delete the partion, you should copy the files off of it. Since the partition is mounted on the /home directory, you can completely logout of all users without having to reboot and use a LIVE Linux CD distribution. Next, login as root and type runlevel 1. This will make sure nothing will be loaded, so the copying does not take a long time. Then make a directory in the root directory called /homenew. Type `cp -av /home/* /homenew`. After the copying is done which should not take a long time. Unmount /home and rename it to /homeold. Then rename /homenew to /home. Finally you can delete hdb1 and make a partition with the correct size.

If cfdisk errors because of bad sectors then you have a bad drive.

I only buy either Hitachi or Western Digital hard drives because they are first and second rate manufactures. Maxtor is third rate.
