I have troubles in writing DVDs with my nec 2510A dual layer 8x DVD +/-RW
I access only to the DAO (disc at once), no choice for TAO which I was told is
the right method to write/duplicate movie DVDs.

My DAO record session stops at ~ 50% ??!!!??
Trying to get the size from the media, it says:"no media found'

please, help me!!!!

what version of K3B are you using? K3B wasnt able to use dual-layer media until version 0.11.13

I had the same problems with NEC 2510 A (both firmware 2.15 and upgraded to 2.16), until I installed the latest version of growisofs (version 5.20).
You can find it on the site http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/. Dowload the mentioned version, build it, and youre DVD (double layer) should work.
I used it in the following ways:
1. To copy an iso image: =>growisofs -Z /dev/cdwriter=image.iso
2. To blank a DVD+RW: =>growisofs -Z /dev/cdwriter=/dev/zero
3. To copy files as an iso image from disk right away: =>growisofs -Z /dev/cdwriter -R -J /home/mart/safe

There are many problems with cdrecord at the moment. For instance writing DVD's. Growisofs is really great!

I'm using k3b 0.11.6cvs (the one included in mandrake 10)
I downloaded growisofs: it's a .c file, there is no makefile and
I haveno idea how to compile it ....(sorry for the silly question!)

I inserted a DVD+RW in the drive, then
growisofs -Z /dev/hdb=/dev/zero
I got
:-( /dev/hdb: media is not recognized as recordable DVD: 0
??!! mounting problems:
my drive DRD+-RW is mounted as
iso9660 supermount codepage=850,iocharser=iso8859-1
