Would this hardware setup be recognized by Linux?
I am trying to build a Linux system. Would the following hardware be recognized by Linux and be completely utilized by Linux?
Pentium D 950 - 3.4GHz dual core processor
2GB of DDR2 memory
Intel ASUS P5LD2-VM motherboard
Onboard Intel 950 graphics
I am thinking of going with the Ubuntu distro

You shouldn't have a problem.

For a bit more of an informative reply, if you need future hardware advice before making a purchase, check out the HCL right here on LQ:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/
Or try searching around google for Linux focused reviews of the hardware.
But as stlouis says, it all looks fine. The only issue I could possibly imagine would be if Ubuntu is not set up out of the box to handle >1gb of memory or >1 processor. Haven't checked in on Ubuntu in a while though, so I can't confirm if that will be a problem (the solution being a simple kernel upgrade).

Thanks for the recommendation of the HCL. I forgot about that.
Unfortunately my specs aren't on the list so I'll be sure to let others know if it works or not by adding to the Linuxquestions.org HCL.
I went ahead and ordered the items so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!

The fact that a google search for:
'linux, pentium d'
'linux, intel 950 graphics'
turns up a lot of positive results, you can uncross your fingers as things will work out fine. RAM would never be a problem, and I find Linux has better motherboard support than Windows, so that won't be a problem at all.
By the way, nice system, I bet you're happy with the low prices lately

Thanks.
I heard that prices are going to be even lower when the new Intel Core Duo 2 comes out at the end of this month and in August. AMD has already started slashing their prices.
Unfortunately our research group needs this computer now to start our data analysis. I will be getting the new Intel Core Duo 2 CPU's in the following months as the technology gets better and when we need more horsepower.
Now I hope the Intel Core Duo 2's will work with Linux and be utilized to the fullest extent that it can.
