Would a new apple PC running Slackware 13.37 be faster than running the apple OS?

Would a new MacBook Pro running Slackware 13.37 be faster than running the MacBook Pro OS?

Probably, under Slackware you could heavily optimize for speed (rebuild kernel, chose light WM/DE, etc); while Mac OS is only going to offer you comparatively limited areas of possible improvement (frankly, Apple is already very good at getting the most out of their hardware).

On the other hand, if you compared it to a stock Slackware install running KDE4 with all the desktop effects (to approximate the Mac OS UI features)...that might be a different story.
