WMP54G Linksys Wireless adapter - VERSION 4

I've found lots of info on the web concerning installing this adapter if you have version 2, but I have the lastest version.

The drivers at http://sourceforge.net/projects/rt2400 don't help me much since I can't compile the configuration utility. I can't "make" it because it gives me errors about not having some header files and then I get like 50 million errors after that.

I got the ndiswrapper 1.1 installed, drivers loaded, and I'm told that the hardware is present, however, I can't get dhclient or dhcpcd to get me an IP address. When I call ifup it tells me no link is present.

So, with ndiswrapper, I have it installed fine, but can't dhcp it. Under windows (i put it on for a min to see if it would connect) everything works fine.

Any ideas guys?

CentOS 4 (So Redhat Enterprise 4 basically - Think of it as Fedora Core 3)

First, type in ' ifconfig ra0 inet up'
Then, type 'ifconfig'
What do you get when you do ifconfig?
What about 'iwconfig'?
These will give you info on the status of your interface.

If your network interface shows in ifconfig listing, its installed and your problem is probably with dhcp.IMO

I had this problem after I successfully installed using driver from rt2x00.
It turned out, in my case, to be a problem with my wireless router and its handling of dhcp.
I assigned a static ip on my router for this computer, and I assign a static ip on my computer at startup.

One thing to remember when using dhclient, is that when it fails to negotiate a lease it takes the interface down. You need to do 'ifconfig ra0 inet up' again to bring it back up.

You should explore 'ifconfig --help' ; 'iwconfig --help' ; and 'man iwpriv'
