Wireless Will not become active

I wish I can give you guys more detail, But the issue is that I have a embedded debian device with an ethernet adapter and a Wireless nic. when I run a ifconfig both are picked up but only the ethernet is BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST, and the wireless is ONLY
BROADCAST MULTICAST, The ifconfig can only be edited in the etc/network/interfaces file. How do I set priority to the wireless device to have pick up and connect to my router. I have tried everything.

Thank you

Sorry I Did not put this in the right forum, If someone can move this to the linux networking forum that would be great, I don't want to double post
