Wireless Setup Problem...

Greetings,

You guys must be so bored to answering newbies like me all those questions.

Here's what's my problem

I installed an Ubuntu 8 and I had no Wireless stuff like the Help center said I should, so I followed those guidelines.
I installed this Windows Wireless Drivers program and afterwards - the driver for my Atheros adapter.

Still no change, except sudo lshw -C network now does not say UNCLAIMED, but keeps saying DISABLED.

Typing iwconfig says "No wireless extensions" for both lo,eth0,pan0

Btw, don't know if this is important, but in the Windows Wireless Drivers program when I click Configure Network , I get "Could not find a network configuration tool"...

Pf ... well ... sincere thanks to anyone willing to give a hint

Cheers ...
M.

Go to terminal and type:

sudo iwconfig eth0 up

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

If that doesn't work, post your ifconfig and your lsmod.

Hey cheftec ...

Sadly, this did not work.

I put the result of lsmod here:

Thanks again

Yuck windows drivers for an atheros card.. Why bother with the ndiswrapper shim, when you have a card that has very good Linux support ?

Post the output of lspci please, so we can see which atheros card you have.
The driver should be included in Ubuntu, but you may have to massage it just a little. if not they are easy enough to build/add.

OK that looks like the ar5007 which means you need the latest madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6 driver..

I would suggest uninstallig ndiswrapper, downloading the driver linked in that post. Compile and install it.
Unfortunatley your wireless chip is so new a driver that supports it out ofhte box is not yet available in linux.

here is the Ubuntu HOW-TO for your wireless card..
