wireless mouse not working on any distro
Hello. I was using an onn wireless mouse that I have been using witth my normal windows set up for a long time. I then tried to install both ubuntu and mint on my system and the mouse will not work at all so i could not even install it because of the no mouse functionality. i tried plugging it in to every usb and it still did not work. i read that sometimes those cheap onn mice do not work with linux so i went out and bought a decent logitech one. i came right home and tried to fix it and again no mouse movement whatsoever. I am confused at what could be causing this but it might be something with my motherboard maybe as it is a custom built Pc. my motherboard is a gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P

There are basically two types of wireless devices i.e. bluetooth and RF.
I use a Logitech M325c which has its own USB dongle and connects as a regular HID device so nothing extra is required by the operating system. The M325c is a RF device and already synced to its own dongle, no pairing or special steps are required for it to work.
What is the model number of your Logitech mouse?
I am unfamiliar with Onn mice so not sure how they connect. If bluetooth then either it syncs/pairs with its own USB dongle or the builtin receiver if so equipped.

What are the models of the mice in question (normally that information can be found on the bottom of the mouse or in the packaging). Have you tested both mice in another computer (running what OS) belonging to you or to a friend?
What is the make/model of the computer and what versions Mint and Ubuntu are you using?
Some of this information may not be relevant, but then again it may and it helps round out the picture. The more information you provide the easier it is for others to help you. If you have not done so, you may wish to red this: https://www.linuxquestions.org/linux...Ask_a_Question
I must say, I have not encountered a situation like this, and I guarantee all my mice are cheap ones.
Welcome to LQ.

While the serial number may include the model number it isn't obvious. As stated the model number should be on the bottom of the mouse.

M310 is the model number.
Post the output of the lsusb command
Look at the output of the dmesg command when you plug in the receiver. Is the device recognized as a mouse?
Update.
While there is no official support I did find with a quick search that it worked with older versions of Ubuntu and Mint.

Ok i had to take a picture if it since i could not copy and paste, i have nothing else plugged into the usb ports but the mouse and the usb the live image running from. My keyboard is a ps2 and works fine, here is a picture of the lsusb output. Looks like its not detecting it.. i remember when i first tried my PC with windows after i first built it back 2 years ago even in windiws before i installed all the drivers some of the usb connectors did not work. I dont think that is the case here as i plugged in my usb sound card as a test and it worked fine. But anyway the lsusb output is attached as an image.
Also mouse does not showin dmesg command but it does say ecc is disabled in bios whatever that means

This is a dual boot PC and the mouse works when you switch to windows?
The computer not recognizing the receiver when it is plugged in is a problem. Not sure where to go from here.

Solved.
Ok i solved the problem! I went and looked in the bios settings and found that IOMMU and legacy i/o devices were disabled by default. so i enabled both of those features in bios and then booted into mint and everything worked fine. that is strange but the motherboard i have disables these features by default. thatk you all for your help and i hope that this thread might help someone else someday.

IOMMU
Hello, have same problem with my wireless mouse - cheap one - want to go into the bios and in handbook found in Advanced USB configuration - enabled.legacy USB support : - enables the support for usb devices on legacy operating systems
- the usb devices can be used only tor the bios setup program - disabled
- AUTO : allows the system to detect the presence of usb devices at startup. if deteted, the usb controller legacy mode in enabled. if no usb device is detected the legacy usb support is disabled.
Before I go and change anything, can you advise me what to do ? I have an Asus H61M-F motherboard. There are more usb settings : legacy usb 3.0 support - enabled,
EHCI hand-off - enabled
usb single port control
thanking in advance,
miramarcos
