wireless home network
What would be the best way to create a network of 3 to 4 computers in my home using my linux box as the main and the other 2 or 3 computers are all windows based computers? I am currently looking at the DLink DWL-2100AP access point with some type of pci adapter cards for each. Any suggestions? The other 2 or 3 computers are my kids and they would rather use Windows so they can play all their games. Thanks in advanced for any help.

Can't see as how you'd have a problem.
I use D-link (*much* older kit than that), and it talks fine to PCI and PCMCIA cards (11b in my case) all over the house. Just remember it is just an AP - if you want to access the Internet, you'll need a switch or router in-line to provide that interface. |
I've got an almost identical system set up in my house - I've got a Linksys wireless router attached to my DSL Modem, then 1 main machine runnning Linux 24/7, another machine with Win2000/Linux dual-boot system, 1 WinXP wireless laptop, and 1 really old Linux wireless laptop (using an old Orinoco PCMCIA wireless card). Also have an HP printer attached to the network with a D-Link Ethernet printer server. Whole system works really well, and I'd highly recommend using one of the newer wireless routers as the entry point to your network.
Just my $0.002 ;) |
