wireless for server

i am going to build a wireless router/server and i was wondering if buying a high gain antenna would help at all to pick up signals from my schools T3 wireless, since my laptop won't pick it up. i realize we would have to be a certain distance away, but was wondering if they help at all. i also wanted to know which pci wireless antenna cards + usb cards (only 1 pci slot free) you recommend for using with linux.

thanks

high gain antennas will help... hence the point of high gain antennas.

Any card with a prism-g, prism-2, or similar chipset will work well. Check out the Linux-WLAN homepage for compatibility information.

thanks for the site.

i found a mini dish (like a satellite dish)...the Hawking HWU8DD which seems to be a more directional antenna, so i was wondering if you think that would work better.
