When I put the pcmia wireless card (Hawking 54g) into my laptop, it is not detected at all by ubuntu. In fact, the light does not even turn on.

The thing is, the same wireless card works on another laptop, with the same stock installation of ubuntu.!!

The only difference is that the install that does not work, was done using the alternate cd, and the one that does work, with the standard desktop install.

Is there some reason why the wireless card would not work with a alternate install, and would with a live install??

p.s: the wireless card was NOT in the computer when I installed on the first computer

I found the problem, just had to install restricted kernel drivers.

Funny how they are installed on the desktop cd, but not the alternate...
