Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Wireless card not detected

I use Fedora 5 and the wireless card is a Safe com 54mps 802.11g+ wireless LAN PCI card(which is compatable with linux)

I have two network devices in my PCI slots one is a ethernet card I never use the other is the Wireless card. Linux at startup detects the Ethernet card (and trys to use it) but does not see the wireless card.

Should I try removing the ethernet card? Do I need some drivers for the card?

I don't see which distro you have. If you never use it, you could go into the network card configuration and delete it there. On many systems you can remove the /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 file. This the the file that a GUI configuration program will produce.

You can also change when the NIC interface is started, by choosing to start it on connection rather than on boot. Start the wlan interface on boot. This will eliminate the conflict and allow you to use the NIC card at a later date. This is what I did on my laptop and now I don't have that problem.
