wintv go help needed
i bought a Hauppauge wintv go pci card. I am running suse 9.1 professional. Suse automatically detected the card and installed properly. But when i scan for chanalls no station is found.
i am using tvtime. when i connect cable to vcr and then connect the composite out to the wintv go card i am able see the tv. But if i connect the cable directly to wintv go card no channels are found. here are some details when i goto hardware setup --> tvcard it says Installed TV and Radio Cards: Hauppauge WinTV Installed as TV card number 0 i scanner fro us-cable, us-cable-hrc and us-bcase but nothing finds any station. I posted the problem on alt.os.linux.suse and i got the following response. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- >> today i bought a Hauppauge wintv go pci card. I am running suse 9.1 >> professional. Suse automatically detected the card and installed >> properly. But when i scan for chanalls no station is found. >> > > The card is recognized, but the tuner is not fully supported by the > standard kernel yet. Take a look at: > > http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~jcs116/wintv_cx88.html > http://public.www.planetmirror.com/...x88/index2.html > > Or if you have installed the kernel-source in: > > /usr/src/linux/Documentation/video4linux/README.cx88 If you just want the quick version, then my guess is, that you have to add cx88xx and cx8800 to your /etc/sysconfig/kernel in the section MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT="cx88xx cx8800" But this is just a wild guess... ------------------------------------------------------------------- I did whatever suggested abouve. still it is saying no signal. But when i connect my cable to my vcr and then connect the composit to the composite input of the wintv go card then i can see the tv on tvtime. This used to work like this before i loaded the new drivers from http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~jcs116/wintv_cx88.html. I do not know what to do now. here are more details # /sbin/lsmod | grep cx cx8800 41760 0 i2c_algo_bit 9352 2 bttv,cx8800 v4l1_compat 13316 1 cx8800 v4l2_common 6400 2 bttv,cx8800 videodev 9600 2 bttv,cx8800 cx88xx 17412 1 cx8800 video_buf 19972 3 bttv,cx8800,cx88xx i2c_core 23940 6 tvaudio,bttv,ir_kbd_i2c,cx8800,i2c_algo_bit,cx88xx btcx_risc 4872 3 bttv,cx8800,cx88xx ls -l /dev/vide* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Jul 5 00:00 /dev/video -> video0 crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 0 Apr 6 09:27 /dev/video0 crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 1 Apr 6 09:27 /dev/video1 crw-rw---- 1 root root 171, 16 Apr 6 09:27 /dev/video1394 crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 2 Apr 6 09:27 /dev/video2 crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 3 Apr 6 09:27 /dev/video3 # lspci 0000:00:00.0 Host bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce2 AGP (different version?) Are you sure you have coxial cable connected to the card and TV/VCR is disabled on the VCR. Also make sure you have these modules loaded.

Print everything in dmesg. Also find out what tuner model you have by looking at the label on the tuner. Probably your tuner is not supported. Did you try using tvtime or mplayer and select the composite (RCA or phono) plug input. If neither tvtime and mplayer work using the composite connector, it could be the CX88xx module conflicting it. The WINTV GO does not use CX88xx. I do not know who said load up CX88xx because that is wrong for your card.

In /etc/modules.conf add "options bttv tuner=<desire tuner>" For <desire tuner> pick a tuner from the document. You may need to upgrade your kenel if neither tuner model works with your tuner. Though the TV tuner in TV capture cards are worst than VCR. You can use the composite or S-VIDEO connector for viewing TV. |
