Wintv Go bt878, Mandrake 10, No signal, xawtv only shows snow on top, composite works
Hi,
I have Mandrake 10 (2.6.3-4mdk kernel). Wintv Go bt878 - picked up fine by DrakTV, composite works fine. However No sound at all. I can't use the tuner at all. No changing channels. Nothing shows up on Tvtime ( blue no signal ). On xawtv I get snow on the top 10% of the window, rest is bad. Mythtv Same thing. gv4l same also. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thats strange.
1) Did you set NTSC or PAL. Usually this is the problem on my system. I don't know why LINUX defaults to PAL. 2) Do you have coax cable, an antenna, or composite connected to the card. 3) Did you select either the tuner or composite. The sound from a WinTV Go card comes from the audio out of the card. You have to use the stereo cable that came with the card to go to the LINE IN of your sound card. What does dmesg say. |
1) Yea I set it to NTSC.
2) I have an antenna for testing purposes right now. I tried hooking up a VCR which transmitts on Channel 3 to verify - but same problem. 3) I switched between tuner and composite. Composite has perfect video - no sound. Tuner has snow 10% video / no sound. Doing video capture with GV4L causes snow 10% / random noises. 4) I have the line-out hooked up to Line in in my motherboard - volumes are all up to max. ***I switched to 2.6.3-4mdk-enterprise kernel in order to take advantage of higher memory and hyperthreading. Still same results with Wintv card. dmesg says : ----------------------- <SNIP> PCI: Using ACPI for IRQ routing PCI: if you experience problems, try using option 'pci=noacpi' or even 'acpi=off' vesafb: framebuffer at 0xf0000000, mapped to 0xf8808000, size 16384k vesafb: mode is 1280x1024x16, linelength=2560, pages=1 vesafb: protected mode interface info at c000:e9d0 vesafb: scrolling: redraw vesafb: directcolor: size=0:5:6:5, shift=0:11:5:0 fb0: VESA VGA frame buffer device SBF: Simple Boot Flag extension found and enabled. If you look closely, LINUX can not find the right tuner. You can try going into your computer and find out the model of your tuner. Then load up the Mandrake's tuner wizard. Next set the tuner and reboot. Though you need xawtv installed but you have that already.

The tuner seems to be the problem. I can't figure out what tuner it is though.
I have the WinTV Go PCI - with the bt878 chipset. No mention anywhere (even on the card) about what tuner it is. I'll try to see what others set it to and get different combinations. Thanks for your help. I'll post back my findings. |
