WinTV card with Conexant chipset - no picture in XawTV, but audio works :-S
Hi people,
I'm hoping somebody here has had a similar problem to me and has some advice. I recently received a WinTV card off my father, and decided to stick it in my Linux box (LFS 6.2). It is reported as using a Conexant CX23880/1/2/3 chipset by kinfocenter and as being a 34xxx series WinTV card. I am using the cx88 modules from the kernel, and udev has created /dev/video0 and /dev/vbi0 with no problems.
I then used scantv to pick up the channels, which seemed to be successful. However, when I add them to .xawtv and fireup the program, all I get is the audio (which is crystal clear) and no picture, just the standard small black window that XawTV presents when nothing is going on (Television is selected as the Video source, and obviously when I select Composite1 or S-Video, the sound disappears). If it helps, I have to bring up XawTV with "xawtv -nodga" as the proprietary nvidia drivers I'm using don't support the DGA extension.
Perhaps I need to pass some module arguments to the module, as at the moment I am just loading it straight in. Can anyone at least point me in the right direction? Many thanks,
Phillip

You want to use the ivtv drivers for the Haupaug WinTV Conexant chip cards. I have a 350 card. Once the drivers are installed and running I can just do something like cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg to get a video file of whatever is on the channel that the 350 is tuned to. The ivtv driver includes a few utilities that you can use to change the channel on the card and some other stuff. I'm not using the computer with that card just at the moment so my description is limited. Sorry. All the same, the ivtv driver is what you want.

IVTV drivers were not the ones i needed
Unfortunately, the ivtv drivers do not support my chipset but thanks anyway. I loaded the cx8800 driver back up, and then used kdetv, which again can scan through the channels fine. Bit more of a development this time - I still only get sound under v4l2, but when I selected the v4l plugin in the kdetv settings window, I actually get a picture. However, it is very jerky, and there is no sound (except whitenoise). If it helps, the v4l bridge module is loaded in my X-server. I would so love to get this card working lol :-D. When I load xawtv or kdetv from a terminal, they display input output errors over and over. If anyone needs more information I can give it when I return from work. Thanks,
Phillip
