winmodem mentor please

Hi everyone.

You have all seen this type of thread a thousand times.

I need helppp ?

It's been a few days now, but finally back on line with a multi operating system. I've heard some good things about redhat and thought it was time to convert and expand my needs away from windows operating systems.
What I'm hopeful for is an experienced winmodem mentor who could find the time and patience, probably will be asked for a step by step account from 1 to 100 of required procedures for getting me out of this plastic box via my internal only wants to connect to windows (at present) modem.
Have found a few sites for downloading winmodem drivers but was wondering if any new ways are available as the sites seem to be updated to the year 2002.

I live in Thailand and have found no contact point on this issue over here, only words of change to an external modem due to the unknown.

If anyone is willing to assist, many thanks in advance and all information related to my system will be posted or forwarded at request.

regards for now

Triple a, thanks for the first words

For ref, as of today upgraded to Redhat 9

Checked out scanmodem...results are:

ON THE BOX IT CAME WITH...
intel(R) 537 data fax voice modem V92, internal

SCANMODEM
pci bus states 00:0a.0 is a tiger jet network inc. intel 537 modem candidate.

Class 0780: e159:0001 comm controller : t jet net inc 537.
subsystem 8086:0003 intel corp : unknown dev 0003

Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, irq 11
i/o ports at d000 (size =256)
chipset ambient technologies MD3200

Redhat kernal 2.4.20.8 - 3.2.2

AAA, it also states to use...intel -537-2.27.39.0.zip - Is this the modem driver to download ?

chipset vendor ..e159 tiger jet
intel softmodem supported by the above mentioned zip under version e159:0001 0359:0003 TJ320 v3.1, some intel537 modems supported by pctel drivers.
A dev/modem symbolic link is not present. ! - I feel a new directory coming on...Going to have a look around at this little bit of advice..

80% is understood. its the 20 i stuck on. best to start at the very start.

All help with a big thanks AAA

Have been following your link, downloaded compiled Intel 537-2.27.39.0.zip (1.3mb). Also went to recommended site from scanmodem data. Intel hold a large page concerning linux OS drivers.

http://developer.intel.com/design/mo...rt/drivers.htm

found with ease right chipset driver to download (2.59mb).

So far have installed 537***zip. Changed directory and did..make clean..make all..make install.

returned from make install was..
Make 1..(coredrv.0) error 127.

Did make check ..module precompile check..
Current kernel is 2.4.20.8
/lib/modules...autoconf.h - does not exist
Please install kernel source
Make ***(check) error 1

--------whats it all about ? so far its not too bad, i suppose ! Its only a modem, is it not......

Any ideas or help from a linux wiz would be useful.
