LinuxQuestions.org - Windows XP and Fedora Core 3 Dual Boot Problem

I have searched this and found the problem at many places but there is no apparent reason and solution.

Hardware
---------------

Motherboard -> Intel D945GNT (using built-in VGA and sound card)
Processor -> Intel 2.8 GHz Dual Core
Hard Disk -> Seagate SATA 80 GB

Step 1
---------
I installed Windows XP with service pack 2 first with the following partitioning.

10 GB [C:]
10 GB [D:]
15 GB [E:]
15 GB [F:]
6 GB [G:]
6 GB [H:]
12 GB [Free Space]

Step 2

Then I installed Fedora Core 4 on the 12 GB free space, by creating LVM partitioning.

Step 3

After the installation of FC4, I rebooted the PC and put in Windows XP setup CD and tried to boot the system from XP CD. The process freezed at hardware inspection and screen went blank.

On other hand, I am able to boot the system normally and can log in to both windows and linux.

After browsing through the Internet, I found other people facing same problem and I somehow, using smartdrv.exe from http://ce.aut.ac.ir/~naderan/WinXP.htm, deleted Linux partitions and the problem resolved.

I repeated the same process with FC3 using ext3 manual partioning. The only difference, other than ext3, was that I used ATA emulation option on the motherboard since FC3 did not recognize the SATA drive. And the same thing happened again, system freezed at Hardware inspection. But I am able to boot the system normally and can log in to both windows and linux.

To resolve the issue, I repeated the same process and deleted those Linux partitions.

What are the possible reasons and solutions to this problem. Looks like FC 3/4 changes hard disk geometry and XP setup CD does not deal with it. But how can I, then boot into XP and Linux?

Problem: Although I can boot into XP and Linux normally, but I dont want the system to be hanged when I use XP setup CD.
