Windows. Hence the subject of my post.
So i've used ZAR to extract a lot of the data that remains intact. 17% of the data was destroyed, but i'm hopeful about the rest. i was able to recover most of the footage from my movie, and have put it back together. Thanks again.

Flaky hardware. Personally, I've never used one, but a friend has had 3 out of his last 3 Maxtors fail. He has now switched to another brand.

I'm glad you got your data back.
I use 2 Maxtor 6Y080M0 drives in RAID 1 configuration. Never had any trouble in the almost 2 years since I built this box.
Whenever you are working with crucial information, like your video, it is best to always backup to another media/device regularly. I don't care if you are using WD, Seagate, Maxtor or Hitachi drives, it doesn't matter, you MUST backup your pertinent data.
