window trails
Hi. I am running Suse Linux 9.1 Pro.

Originally, I had an ATI Raedon VE graphics card.

I bought a new one, this time an NVidia Geforce 5200 FX with 128 mb DRR RAM. With this card I am using the official NVidia driver with 3D accel and OPEN GL turned on.

Under both cards, I get a fair amount of window trails when I move windows around on the desktop. This is especially true when a window is on top of a themed app (like Firefox or Mozilla). It is somewhat sluggish on screen refreshes, such as in my browser going from regular to fullscreen mode.

I have used both 1024x768 and 1152 resolutions and both 16 and 24 bit color depths.

Why is this so sluggish on the display?

My computer is a Pentium-3 866Mhz with 640 mb of ram. I know ths isn't anywhere near top of the line anymore these days but I have always read that Linux can run with very minimul hardware requirements, so if that is the case, what is deal?

Thanks to all if you have any suggestions for me. I have combed through all of the options I can find within Linux itself and don't really see any cure-all for this problem. I do not have this program when I use my Win 2000 partition.
