I've just started using Linux - Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit
I have 1GB nVidia 8600GT card but havent yet installed the nVidia drivers.
1. Should I install the drivers from System > Administration > Hardware Drivers or directly from nVidia.com ?
2. My monitor is 22" LG LCD (L222WS) with 1680 x 1050 max resolution. Would I be able to get a higher resolution with nVidia ?
Im now wondering, c an Ubuntu make use of the 1GB card ? In Windows its mainly used for games and I dont play games plus this is on a linux machine now.
Have you tried using Ubuntu's Restricted Drivers program to install the drivers? I had Ubuntu on this computer, with a NVidia GEForce 6600, and I used Ubuntu's restricted drivers program, and it worked just fine
I just now installed it from Restricted Drivers Program. Its working fine. Set Visual Effects to Extra. Cool !
But what more can be done with it ? Any Maya-kinda stuff ?
