wifi

Does wifi work under Linux? Is it really complicated to get moving on this old Acer Aspire 3000 laptop?

Yes, wireless is, for the most part, fully supported. The older the wireless card, the more likely it is that the card is supported. Newer cards are sometimes not supported initially so keep that in mind.
Post what type of wireless card you have and someone can tell you of any issues you might have.

See here for nice list of supported cards and level of support:

Thanks

Thanks, will try and get it going asp.
Just that, as I installed Suse 9 from a CD I had, it made no mention at all of wifi, no detection of the card, nothing. I went to the Suse web page and did a search, wifi. Nothing. Which led me to believe that I had a prob.
Will check out sourceforge this weekend. Thanks again.
