wierd problem with aplay and mplayer

I have installed Mandriva in my computer. My sound card works well with xmms. (using alsa). But, when I try to play some audio files using aplay or mplayer, it plays well. But, in the end, it just repeats the last chunk of sound repeatedly. like... if its a beeep, u can hear beeep.. eep eep eep........ (am i sounding crazy )

i reconfigured alsa using alsaconfig...

lspci gave this output for audio controller.

00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50)

And also, my KDE sound system is also not working even if i set it to use ALSA.

What could be the problem??? and how to diagonize it?
