Why is my touchpad lagging after closing laptop lid debian thinkpad synaptics

Every time I close the laptop lid, after I re-open it, the touch pad is really sluggish/lagging -- still "works" but is unusable, and is only fixed by a re-boot.

Laptop: Thinkpad t14s
Code:
$sudo libinput list-devices

It's a long shot, but you might try checking the log files. The tactic I'd take would be to suspend the computer, reawaken it, then use journalctl to look for the most recent log entries.

Also, I have a thought for testing: If you have a mouse, hook it up and see whether it also lags under same conditions.
