why doesnt my Sony CRX200E (cd-writer) not write to CDs? Mandriva.

every time i try to write to a cd using k3b or any other software. It says it cannot burn at 32x and so turns it down to 12x (its meant to b able to burn at 32x). it then spins the disk, stops, spins the disk, stops. etc. untill it finaly says "Error" OPC failed. i have tried with several different types of media and with no prevail.

Can someone help me.

According to what I found on the web the specs are to be 32X/12X/8X, which is 32X read, 12X write and 8x rewrite. Do you have the latest k3b and cdrecord installed? What other software have you tried? Most if not all GUIs use cdrecord to actually perform the writing process. Have you tried using cdrecord to burn a CD?
