Why can't I change my screen resolution when live booting trisquel from a usb?
Hi, I tried trisquel (a distro endorsed by the fsf) by booting it from a live usb, however the screen resolution was wrong and I couldn't change it. I was wondering if this is because I haven't properly installed trisquel yet, or because the Linux Libre kernel doesn't support my hardware - I have an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060, or whether it's because of the following error messages i received when booting:
noveau 0000:01:00.0 unknown chipset (1236000a1) sd 6:0:0:0: [sdc] No Caching mode page found sd 6:0:0:0: [sdc] Assumng drive cache: write through hci0: Missing Free firmware (non-Free firmware loading is disabled) Bluetooth: hci0 Intel firmware file request failed (-22) iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: request for firmware file failed. iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: no suitable firmware found! snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: failed to add i915_bpo component master (-19)
Can anyone explain this for me? Thanks.

The trouble with TOTALLY free software is usually the closed source firmware that comes packaged with the kernel. You actually want that. I tried heads (a tails-like thing with only OSS stuff): My wifi, & network card had no firmware and my cpu had no microcode. The wifi was a pain, and the cpu was dumb in these days of meltdown & spectre. Needless to say, that didn't last too long.

it is a live iso usb stick and they probably didn't want to go into all of the trouble of making it work for every sticking piece of HW out there. and that non-Free firmware loading is disabled is just crap crap, when that is the only thing that works. they still try to play that holier then thou,we're just a free open source distro, BUT if you want just hit the check button and we'll put that non free stuff in that you're going to be needing anyways in for you, crap. Instead of just going ahead like every other distro does without all of that crap.
if anything they should have it the other way around, click the check box if you do not want it installed.

I think tails offers the choice at install time, and if you want peripheral devices to work, you'll need it.
