While switching using KVM, screen blinks

Hi all, I currently have a windows 2000 machine and a machine that I'm trying to install Ubuntu (hoary) on. They are being conected via a Belkin OMNI Cube 2 port switch. I try to switch from the 2000 machine to the Ubuntu machine and it loads the startup screen where you press enter to boot from cd, but when you set up options like what language and stuff, the screen blinks and won't stop. I know I had this problem before on my laptop, but lifting the lid stopped it. However, this is a desktop so I don't know what to do.

Try shutting down the windows box while you configure the Ubuntu box.

Does the KVM switch use a USB interact? I have run into annoying problems using USB keyboard/mouse combinations to connect linux and windows boxes. The switch will fail to sense one box for a few seconds and will then switch to the other box, because it thinks one has been turned off.

No, it doesn't have any USB ports on it. I'll try your suggestion though.
