Probably the nvidia card.

I've used a lot of nvidia cards. I've used a gf2, concretely. No problem so far. The legacy drivers continue to be supported.

Hi There,

Nvidia cards are certainly better as compared to ati, in terms of performance, drivers reachability, support and reliability.
I am using nvidia cards from last 2 years and didn't faced any problem as such.

Cheers,
Kapil.

Changed your title and moving your question to Linux - Hardware to give it the exposure it deserves.

I don't do games, but I can tell you that I'm having excellent luck with the official nvidia drivers on 2 different systems. At the last SCALE, I spoke with SUSE reps who state that nvidia is working very closely with the community to provide good Linux support.

Both those cards are ancient and will use legacy drivers.

EDIT: Like i92guboj said :o LOL. I don't think you'll find any 3D games playable, however. And 3D desktop effects crashed/locked my system frequently last time I tried them with the legacy driver. But maybe things have improved since then.

Nvidia

With the proviso that the Nvidia card has as much or more memory than the ATI, choose the Nvidia. The Nvidia drivers, including that for the legacy chips, give better performance.
