which usb hard drive

Hi
I'm planning to buy an external usb hard drive (200-300Gb) for my laptop (Amd64 Turion). I am running Slackware and Fedora Core5. Is there anything I should know before I buy it? Which makes are not supported or something?
thanks

I think as long as you buy a straight usb drive, and stay away from anything with a fancy interface, you shouldn't have any problems. Nearly all usb products work in the same way as generic bulk storage devices.

If I can make a suggestion though, you can save yourself a few bucks by buying an empty usb case and separate hard drive and putting them together yourself. You can even use any old ide hard disk you have lying around, making it a good way to recycle old drives. And it's dead easy to do, just plug the drive in, screw the top on, and plug it in. That's what I did for my removable drive. Works perfectly.
