which DVD drive?
 
Hi

i am looking for a dvd drive for my linux system, i will need it for playing DVDs also i was wundering which one would be best suported under linux. i was looking at the Pioneer DVD-120 Slot Load.

Should be fine, just as long as is ATAPI or SCSI complient. I've never had a problem with modern drives of any type.

what about playing movies on them, can u play say a US film on aUK drive under linux?

or would u need a region free drive?

BTW, slot loading drives tend to scratch CDs. My ASUS E-608 (8X DVD/40X CD-ROM) is one of the few of its kinds that are region free though programs wants me to set the region.
