Which Debian to download for Intel Core2 Duo

I am confused as to which version of Debian I should download for my Laptop, it has an Intel Core 2 Duo.

Will the i386 version make use of the 64bit architecture?

Or are Core 2 Duo's counted as part of Intel's Itanium line?

Much Thanks

Regards,

You can use any of latest versions of Debian Systems. It really doesn`t matter wich one do you choose, because if you have 64 bits arch GNU/Linux will use just 32 Bits. Personally i use Centos 32 Bits in a 64 Bits arch, and it works just fine.

i386 will NOT use the 64 Bit architecture but will run perfectly well on that hardware.

No the core 2 Duo is not part of the Intel Itanium (IA64) line.

the AMD64 Branch works on Both AMD64 and Intel EM64T CPU 's so if you want 64Bit on your system you need the AMD 64 Install Discs. http://www.debian.org/ports/amd64/
Quote:
The port consists of a kernel for all AMD 64bit CPUs with AMD64 extension and all Intel CPUs with EM64T extension, and a common 64bit userspace.

Enjoy !!
