I have been unable to find this alleged setup question although my BIOS set-up Utility indicates that I am using GB85010.86A.0078.P18 on a Genuine Intel 850GB board.

The Intel Desktop Board D850GB/D850GBAL Product Guide was revised in 2000 and did not seem to reference this Bios Update circa October 2001.
Any assitance provided would be GREATLY appreciated.

So what is displayed when you hit <esc> or whatever to get into your BIOS setup page? It's only on fairly recent motherboards where a USB boot is an option
I notice the updated board specification is dated Nov 11th, 2003. Perhaps the BIOS doesn't support USB booting?

Options for First Second Third and Fourth boot priority

sub-menu offers CD-ROM, Floppy, HDD, Removable Device and Intel PXE Boot. I see nothing for "USB Boot" as advertised.

That was why I am making this post. According to Intel's documentation http://downloadmirror.intel.com/4559/eng/RNOTE18.pdf this BIOS DOES support USB booting. Is not that the It is that this document is the RELEASE NOTES for the NEW RELEASE, updated bios release # 18 as in:

Intel SAYS there was an option added to "Added support to skip boot to USB boot devices. A Setup question "USB Boot" has been provided in Setup's Boot page."

I am using THIS release and I do not see this setup question anywhere within the set up screens for boot or advanced etc...Unless I am missing something (which happens very often) I am hoping others on here have encountered this as well or is using this same BOIS release as well and that they could verify or dis-prove my findings. Intel no longer is offering human technical support for the 850 Family chipset so all i have to go on is their online documentation that isn't congruent with my own findings.

The USB boot if that is you're question that is you're Removable Devices
Anyhow that how it is mention on my system
Off Topic why is in you're system the first boot device the Removable Device
Because at boot it start with first option it did not find a boot device and than it goes to option 2

Just so I am sure to understand you ronlau9. You are saying that on your own BIOS settings, your USB booting priority is changed by changing the priority of "Removable Device" in your boot menu.

That is helpful. The Intel documentation for my BIOS reads: "A Setup question "USB Boot" has been provided in Setup's Boot page" which is leading me to believe there is an enable/disable toggle somewhere for "USB Boot". If this toggle was enabled AND there was a boot device attached to a USB port, the normal boot priory would be superseded. But I have not found any documentation that spells this out specifically and I have not found any such setting that reads "USB BOOT" mentioned in the release notes of my BIOS.

Additionally, my windows laptop boots to a slackware boot prompt when my 4GB USB installation stick is plugged into to a USB port on my laptop during power up. But my desktop, the one with the Intel GB85010A.86A motherboard and P18 Bios this thread is about, does NOT. All of which leads me to believe, in my own situation that "removable device" does NOT refer to USB on my system.

Is your board and bios Intel? If so, do you know what version of BIOS you are currently running?
